Totes of Hope Backpacks for Homeless Vets

posted by Michelle Bell | March 02, 2018

The American Red Cross Central PA Region needs help in support of Totes of Hope Resiliency Backpacks for Homeless Veterans! Pennsylvania is proud to be the home of many who have served in the military, ranking 4th in the number of veterans yet sadly 8th in the number of homeless veterans throughout the USA according to the 2016 HUD report on homelessness.

In an effort to assist the Red Cross, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and York counties are collecting personal care items to be assembled into hundreds of backpacks and distributed to homeless veterans throughout Central PA. The Carlisle Family YMCA is one of several drop off locations in Carlisle, Chambersburg, McConnellsburg, New Oxford and Waynesboro.

In addition to personal care items, “Notes of Thanks” are also appreciated. Please consider writing a personal note of thanks to a veteran receiving a backpack. These notes mean so much to the veterans, reminding them that their service has not been forgotten.

Anyone wishing to donate any of the new items listed below can drop them off in the bin in the lobby at the Y on or before March 18, 2018.
