Y Members Got Their Pink & Blue On in September & October

posted by Michelle Bell | February 07, 2019

The Carlisle Family YMCA partnered its commitment to healthy living with prostate and breast cancer awareness in the months of September and October with a “Get Your Pink & Blue On” fitness challenge. Participants were encouraged to come to the Y and work out to help raise awareness of these diseases.

Balloons of support were posted around the Y in recognition of each participant. Two grand prize winners – one male and one female – were selected after visiting the Y the most times during September and October. Bill Thompson and Emma Carothers each received goodie bags full of prizes from the Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Coalition and PA Breast Cancer Coalition. Prizes also were awarded to the next three female and male finishers:

  • First place: Tamiko Soler and Michael Lynch
  • Second place: Mary Carson and James Cermano
  • Third place: Alice Hurwitz, Sandy Mader, Sandy Weimer (3-way tie) and Ryan Ferguson

A portion of the proceeds from the program were allocated to the Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Coalition and the PA Breast Cancer Coalition. The Y was able to present checks for $125 each to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition and the Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Coalition.

Diane Funston, a breast cancer survivor, and Richard Smith were sponsors of the program.

"Every dollar counts and is a help toward finding a cure," said Diane Funston. "We appreciate [the Y's] hard work in organizing and conducting this event every year."

Sandy Mader receives her prize for finishing in the top 5 women in the challenge.
