What equipment does my child need for practice and games?

Shin guards are mandatory for all soccer activity, along with socks to cover the shin guard.  Soccer cleats are highly recommended but not required and sneakers are an acceptable substitute.  Baseball and football cleats that have a cleat on the toe are not allowed in soccer as they can be dangerous.  You’re child should also have a ball to bring to practice and games.

What size ball does my child need?

Age 5 = Size 3

Ages 6-11 = Size 4

Ages 12 and up = Size 5

Is the CAYS program co-ed?

Only the U-12 age division at the recreational level is co-ed for the purpose of numbers.

Travel is not co-ed.

When does the season begin?

The fall season starts in mid-August and runs through the end of October/early November. The spring seasons starts in mid-March and runs through the end of May/early June.

Can I choose the team my child will play on?

At the recreational level, parents can submit requests for a specific coach and/or teammate(s).  While we try to honor all requests, there is never a guarantee.  Siblings who are playing in the same age group are always placed on the same team, unless requested otherwise.

Because of the competitive nature and the tryout process involved in travel soccer, parents have little say in which team their child is placed on.

How are teams formed?

All rec soccer players are evaluated before the fall and spring seasons.  Teams are formed based on their skill level, and we make a concerted effort to make the teams as even as possible.  Also taken into account are available practice nights for each participant.  Coach and friend requests are also considered, as well as any other requests.

All players interested in travel soccer must tryout near the end of the spring season.  Tryouts are conducted by former and current coaches (other than the coach for that perspective age group. i.e. the U-11 boys coach would not run tryouts for the U-11 boys).  Players who make the team they are guaranteed a spot on that team through the following fall AND spring season.

When are practices and games?

Rec practices are held one evening during the week for one hour.  Some of the older teams may choose to hold two practices a week. Most games are on Saturdays, however, a few games are held during the week.

Travel teams practice two nights a week for 1-1.5 hours. Most age groups play all their games on Saturdays.  Some of the older age groups (U-15 and above) play on Sunday afternoons so they do not conflict with school soccer.

Where are practices and games held?

All Rec and Travel practices and games are held at G.B. Stuart Athletic Complex located on Rockledge Drive in Carlisle.

For travel soccer, half of the games (4) are away and are played at clubs in surrounding areas.  Most of these away games are less than 45 minutes away from Carlisle.
