Parents Night Out



Parents can drop off their kids in grades K-5 for a night of fun at the Y while getting a chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Kids should bring a swimsuit and change of clothes (PJs if they want). Parents should drop off kids in the kitchen for homework help, games, coloring, snack and a movie. We will be swimming from 7:15-8:15pm and then getting changed to be ready for pick up in the lobby.​

Hurricane Maria Relief Fund



The situation in Puerto Rico remains dire. Thousands of people are still without basic necessities and without power. The Ys in the area are already doing everything they can to help. From serving thousands of meals, to providing children of hard-hit communities with daycare, snacks, and safe spaces, to sheltering Red Cross volunteers, they are going above and beyond to help with the recovery.

Open Water Swim Clinic



​This one-hour, in-pool clinic is intended for beginning and intermediate level swimmers interested in refining their technique/form in freestyle and developing open water skills. After this clinic participants will have a clearer understanding of proper freestyle technique, drills to help develop better form and technique in the water and an introduction to open water swimming. The clinic will include a brief 5-minute discussion on deck, followed by an in-pool session reviewing the following:

  • Setting and attaining personal goals
  • Review of a solid freestyle stroke
  • Techniques and drills for developing a good freestyle stroke
  • Introduction to open water drills for triathletes and fitness swimmers, including sighting and treading water

Louise M. Hyder-Darlington was challenged by a friend to try swimming around the Statue of Liberty in 2013. This marked her first open water swim and hooked her on the open water life. Her goal is to swim the English Channel in August 2018.

Swim Strokes Swim Lessons



Having mastered the fundamentals, students in our Swim Strokes Swim Lessons learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being and foster a lifetime of physical activity. Swimmers are introduced to the four competitive swimming strokes as well as rescue skills and healthy lifestyle habits.

Stage Descriptions:

  • 4 / Stroke Introduction - Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.
  • 5 / Stroke Development - Introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.
  • 6 / Stroke Mechanics - Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.​

Swim Basics Swim Lessons



Students in our Swim Basics Swim Lessons learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: swim, float, swim—sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide and exit—and jump, push, turn, grab. Students are taught the recommended skills to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water. Activities, games and drills to reinforce learning are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based approach to swimming.

Stage Descriptions:

  • 1 / Water Acclimation - Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.
  • 2 / Water Movement - Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.
  • 3 / Water Stamina - Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.​

In our Swim Starters Swim Lessons, infants and toddlers - accompanied by a parent - learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.

Water Fitness Class Schedule



Water fitness is an ideal form of exercise for all ages and utilizes the buoyant qualities of water to increase physical strength and endurance without putting stress and strain on your joints. You do not need to register ahead of time. Just show up ready for a great workout! Members age 13 and up can take any of our water exercise classes. Here is a sampling of our current classes:

  • Aqua Jogging - Incorporate aqua jogging to music as well as some interval training. Run in the water and put less stress on your joints.
  • Aquacize - Shallow water exercise. No swimming ability required.
  • Aqua Zumba® - Aqua Zumba uses mostly Latin music rhythms such as meringue, cumbia and salsa but can also use a variety of upbeat tempos as found in swing or country music. The movements will be slower than in a class you would do on land, yet they can be just as intense due to the water’s resistance.
  • Deep H20 - This class will challenge all fitness levels while being easy on the joints. Resistive equipment is used to increase intensity. Confidence in deep water is strongly suggested. Flotation belts are available.
  • Aqua Mix - These weekend classes are taught by 2 different instructors who will bring their own flavor to the class.
  • Wet ‘N Wild - High energy class for total body conditioning! Primarily uses shallow water.
  • Arthritis Water Exercise - This class will help you gain range of motion in your joints as well as build strength in all major muscle groups. Some cardiovascular conditioning included. This class is open to non-members for a fee. A doctor release form is required for non-members

SPEAR



NEW THIS YEAR! We are excited to introduce SPEAR (Special Program to Enhance Adolescent Responsibility), a specialty teen leadership program for ages 13-14. This new day camp features many activities and experiential learning opportunities for our young leaders. They will learn to communicate, interact with others, grow food for our local partners, volunteer and promote social development with local businesses and community partners. They also will create a positive impact while working with others their own age and developing positive characteristics of a young leader. Campers will complete a workbook and a speech at the end of their two-week session. They will share what they learned and the importance of being a positive role model and identify the type of leadership qualities they want to build on and then model to others.

Space is limited to 12 campers per session. Sessions are two-week intervals and only run Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. We will be swimming at the Y the first Friday of each session. Please note, campers may get wet during other activities on non-swimming days. We will take a half-day field trip on the second Monday of each session. Then on the second Friday of each session, campers will give their final speeches at North Middleton Park. The day will include a picnic lunch and water activities. Parents are invited to join us for the speeches at noon. Activities will include bike trips, photography, farm-to-table growing, canoeing, day hikes, etc. A packed lunch is needed each day and old clothes are preferred.​

Swimming Ninja Warrior Challenge



Check out our twist on American Ninja Warrior in the pool! Participants will complete a course in the pool including our new Aquaclimb® climbing wall, inflatable pool obstacle course and other challenges. Participants will get at least two runs on the course, depending on how many people sign up. The times will be averaged and the winner in each division will receive a prize. Four divisions are available – ages 8-9, ages 10-11, ages 12-14 and age 15 and up. Please note that there is a 300-pound weight limit.​ Families can enjoy free rec swim time following the competition.

Togetherhood®



​Togetherhood® is the Y's member-led volunteer service program and we are excited to launch this program at our Y! Through Togetherhood, Y members from all backgrounds work with their neighbors and community partners to plan and lead service projects that respond to community needs. Together hood enables members to experience the power of the Y's cause in action and play a direct role in shaping the future of their community. It also helps Ys demonstrate community benefit, showing the public that we're more than just a gym and swim - we're a charity dedicated to strengthening community.

Exergame Youth Room



The Exergame Youth Room is a space that allows youth ages 7-12 to engage in interactive play on the various Exergame products at the facility. Featured items include the Eyeplay, Exerbike, CardioWall and 3Kick – all interactive gaming systems that combine fitness, technology and gameplay to get people moving and active all while having fun!

The intention of the exergaming room is to provide an active alternative for our youth members and families. The exergaming room equipment and program are specifically designed for elementary age members and their families. We hope you will enjoy the exergaming room as another added benefit of your Carlisle Family YMCA membership.

PURPOSE

In order to better meet the needs our members we have created the new Exergame Youth Room, which was made possible by generous donations from the George B. Stuart Foundation and the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation. The intention of the exergaming room is to provide an active alternative for our youth members and families. The exergaming room equipment and program are specifically designed for elementary age members and their families. We hope you will enjoy the exergaming room as another added benefit of your Carlisle Family YMCA membership.

AGE GUIDELINES

  • All participants must be between 7-12 years of age
  • Participants between 7-8 years of age must be signed in by a parent or guardian over 18
  • Participants under 7 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times

ROOM USE

  • The exergaming room may only be used during designated times and when staffed.
  • All participants in the exergaming room must sign in.
  • All equipment must be used appropriately at all times.
  • There is a maximum time limit of (1) hour for children under the age of 9.
  • No food or drink is permitted, with the exception of water bottles with lids that can close.

EQUIPMENT USE

  • Staff is available to orient youth on the equipment during regular hours.
  • All safety precautions must be followed.
  • Please sign up for the piece(s) of equipment you want to use on the board located by the door.
  • There is a maximum time limit of (5) minutes per piece of equipment when there is a waiting list.

Diabetes Prevention Program



Over 86 million American Adults—more than 1 out of 3— have prediabetes and 9 out of 10 of those with prediabetes don’t even know they have it. The Centers for Disease Control Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes reduce their risk. This is done by educating participants on healthy eating, physical activity and decision making through on-site meetings and group activities. This FREE program will be delivered by educated and / or certified individuals from both the Carlisle Family YMCA and Carlisle Regional Medical Center. The program is made possible through a grant from Community Aid.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  • Yearlong program – Meetings once a week for first 6 months, then once a month for last 6 months
  • Small group, supportive environment (max of 15 people)
  • Classroom based education
  • Learn healthier eating habits and increase physical activity to reduce risk
  • Y membership not required; reduced rates for participants who qualify

GOALS

  • Reduce body weight by 5-7%
  • Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Adults 18 years old and up
  • Overweight (BMI of > 24 kg/M2 or > 22 kg/M2 if Asian)
  • At risk for or have been diagnosed with prediabetes* (Confirmed via 1 of 3 blood tests or previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes. If no blood test, a qualifying risk assessment score)
  • Commitment from participant for the year – Attending a minimum of 9 meetings in the first 6 months and minimum of 3 meetings the last 6 months

*Individuals diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes do not qualify for this program

English Channel Virtual Swim Challenge



Have you ever wanted to swim across the English Channel? Since it’s a little far to travel, would you settle for a virtual swim? All participants who swim 21 miles—or 37,000 yards—from January 1 - February 17 will receive a T-shirt to mark the accomplishment. Participants will log their yardage on our online challenge tracker and a chart also will be posted on the far side of the pool to track progress. We will count how many days it takes to complete the challenge to determine our winners, so you can start anytime during the challenge! Participants will compete in two age groups--18 and under and 19 and over--and the top finisher in each group wins a prize. Why not make this your New Year’s resolution?​

Pickleball



We are excited to bring this new and growing sport to the Y! Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The game is played on a court with the same dimensions and layout as a badminton court, and a net and rules similar to tennis. This program will offer instruction for those new to the sport, and will feature plenty of time for open play. We understand that sometimes it is more convenient for members to take advantage of a Y near their workplace or when they are traveling outside the area of their home Y. With Nationwide Membership, members have the flexibility to use participating Y facilities throughout the United States at no extra charge.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Nationwide Membership is valid for active, full facility Y members whose home Y participates without restriction or blackout periods
  • Nationwide member visitors must use their home Y at least 50% of the time
  • Program-only participants (including Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit or other like programs) are not eligible for nationwide membership
  • Special memberships established by any Y for group homes, other agencies, etc., are not eligible
  • When visiting a Y, nationwide members will be required to show a valid YMCA membership card and photo ID as well as provide basic membership data such as name and email address
  • Members will need to sign a universal liability waiver and privacy policy
  • Ys should allow nationwide members access to services typically offered to full-facility members. Check with the Y for schedule and availability. Nationwide members visiting other Ys for a period greater than 28 days must transfer membership affiliation for continued use
  • All Ys reserve the right to restrict or revoke these privileges
  • Registered sex offenders are prohibited from participating

Adult / Child / Infant CPR & AED and First Aid Class



Safety and the Y go hand in hand. Get certified to perform First Aid and CPR on an adult, child or infant and be prepared to effectively respond in an emergency situation. You also will be trained to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, and is able to treat them through defibrillation.​ Certification is through the American Heart Association and is valid for two years.

Sports Buddies



We are excited to team up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region to bring a sports- and fitness-focused mentoring program to the area! Sports Buddies is for boys and girls ages 7-16. Each child is matched with a screened and trained volunteer mentor. Matches enjoy membership privileges to the Y and are invited to monthly group activities at the Y. All matches are supported by Big Brothers Big Sisters program staff.​

Parents and caregivers of children who want to be involved with the program and interested volunteers should contact Sports Director Kelly Tyrrell.

Parent / Swim Basics Level 1 Lessons



​Do you have a beginner level swimmer who is too old for the Swim Starters program, but isn't quite ready for Swim Basics lessons all on his / her own? If so, this is the perfect class for your child and you. The class will be the same as the Level 1 swim lessons, but you can be in the water to assist your child. Space is limited to 8 children so sign up early!

CYAA Mini Sharks Session One

The Carlisle Family YMCA has a competitive swimming program (CYAA) for youth up to age 18. The program includes development and training for all levels from the novice swimmer to the national elite. No tryouts are held, but swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards). The team participates in the YMCA Swim Coaches' Association of Pennsylvania (YSCAP) League and competes in several dual meets as well as optional USA and other YMCA invitational meets. The swim team is divided into three groups: Mini Sharks, Competitive Age Group and Elite High School Age Group. The season runs from October to February. A Y membership (youth, teen or family) is required for all competitive swimmers.

MINI SHARKS SESSION ONE!

Want to see what being on the swim team is all about? This program is specifically for children ages 5-8 years old and 9-year-olds who are new to competitive swimming and would like to just “get their feet wet.” The season runs from November 6 – December 22, 2017 and practices are offered 3 days/week. Session One Mini Sharks are encouraged to compete in our meets during the session. Participants in this group do not need to have a Y membership, but will only be able to swim exhibition if they are not Y members.

NERF® Wars



This addition to our Friday Night Fun programming lineup has been a huge hit! NERF® Wars participants will be separated into teams and will “battle” each other with dart guns. A course will be created in the basketball court using cardboard boxes and other safe materials as obstacles for cover. While the program is targeted to kids, we would love to have parents join in the fun. Participants should wear comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers. All equipment will be provided.​

Gym ‘N Swim



Let us take care of your child for 90 minutes while you get in a good workout or have time to run errands. Children will participate in organized, age-appropriate games and activities followed by a 30-minute swim lesson taught by our qualified staff. You won't want your child to miss out on this fun class! Participants must wear their bathing suits to class. If your child does not want to participate in the gym portion, he / she may sign up and just attend the swimming part of class.

Annual Campaign



At the Y no child, family or adult is turned away for membership or program participation. We recognize that for communities to succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. We can't do this alone!

Last year financial assistance was provided to 1,293 people
totaling $272,481. This is made possible through donations to our Annual Campaign and the support of the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County. Scholarships are not funded through membership fees, which makes the success of our Annual Campaign vital to our community-strengthening efforts.

We would like to thank everyone who already contributed to the campaign in 2017. We raised $80,839 to support our mission. Our 2018 campaign will kick off in early Spring. If you would like to donate or volunteer to help, please contact Development Director Cate Mellen.

Understanding Autism: One Piece at a Time Fitness Challenge



The Y is promoting Autism Awareness Month during April. Understanding Autism challenge participants will get a T-shirt and autism pin (if registered by April 15) and collect daily puzzle pieces at each visit to put on their puzzle cards. Blank puzzle cards can be picked up at the Welcome Center starting April 2. Most days you will just stop by the Welcome Center to pick up your puzzle piece, but on the following dates you must complete the challenge listed to earn your puzzle piece. After completing the activity, you can get your puzzle piece in the designated area:

  • Monday, April 2 - Wear blue in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day (Welcome Center)
  • Wednesday, April 4 - Take a fitness class in Prescott (Prescott Room)
  • Wednesday, April 11 - Workout in the Adult Fitness Center (Adult Fitness Center)
  • Wednesday, April 18 - Go swimming or take a water exercise class (Indoor Pool)

All puzzle piece sheets - completed or not - must be turned in to the Welcome Center by May 7, 2018 to be entered in the drawing to win a Y prize pack.

Every family can be a healthy family. By focusing your family’s efforts to live healthier around the Y’s pillars of a healthy family home and taking small steps using the information, tools and activities we provide, your family will soon be feeling stronger and living healthier.

Wet ‘N Wild Egg Hunt In the Pool



BACK THIS YEAR! We are breaking the hunt into sessions - 10-10:30am, 10:30-11am and 11-11:30am. Each session is limited to 50 children.

Bring your children to the Carlisle Family YMCA pool for a wet ‘n wild time collecting plastic eggs. Parents of children 6 years old and under must be in the pool with their children. We will provide extra staff on deck and in the pool. In addition, we will keep the pool open for recreational swim until 12pm for all participants and their family members to enjoy. All participants should wear a bathing suit and bring a towel and a container for the eggs they collect. Goggles are optional. No water wings are permitted.

Youth Adventure Day Camp



YADC is designed to provide peace of mind to working parents while giving kids a chance to have a fun summer. YADC campers spend the majority of their time at the Y, enjoying the fun-filled benefits of the Y facility, pool and grounds. The campers also walk to local parks, Bosler Memorial Library and other local attractions. Each week will have fun-filled themes and activities, as well as a field trip. Small groups are led by a counselor, and the groups are constantly rotating through sessions and group games including:

Arts & Crafts | Swimming | Cooking | Large Group Games Dance & Drama | Reading & Math | And Much More!

Our weekly service projects are aimed at teaching the kids morals and life skills to help them develop into purposeful young adults.

New Frontiers Day Camp



Day campers will travel from the Y each day by bus to our 100-acre Y’s Men and Women’s Club farm, located about 10 minutes from the Y. The natural beauty of this site is a perfect location to explore environmental and outdoor education and activities. This year we will be separating the summer into three, three-week sessions:

1st three weeks – “Things That Fly,” including archery arrows, sling shots, fishing rods, NERF® guns, catapults, arts & crafts and more

2nd three weeks – “Creek, Pond, Lake,” including activities around the water, canoeing, kayaking, rock panning, creek walks, frog races and more

3rd three weeks – “Sports, Lawn Games, Recreational Activities,” including biking, scavenger hunts, zorb soccer, inflatable and more.

Camp Thompson Day Camp



If your day camper is looking for a little adventure this summer, we invite you to Camp Thompson for a one-of-a-kind, once-a-summer day camp experience! Camp Thompson has been a Y camping tradition for almost a century and is located between Laurel and Fuller lakes along the historic Appalachian Trail. Our facilities include a modern bath house, a wellness center with an on-site health care provider, dining hall, pavilion, volleyball court, two high ropes courses, paint ball course and much more. With all this and more, Camp Thompson is the perfect place for your camper to make new friends and explore all that Y camping has to offer. Join us for one special week of day camp at Camp Thompson! This camp fills very quickly! Campers will enjoy all of these activities and more: arts & crafts, swimming, low ropes initiative park, outdoor living skills, sports, tubing, canoeing, nature, archery and large group games. Parents must present a valid photo ID every day at pick up.

Camp Thompson After Dark



​Camp Thompson After Dark is designed for our day campers to experience Camp Thompson Resident Camp for one special night! The unique overnight experience will give campers a chance to venture out and try new things at Camp Thompson after dark! Campers will have the chance to participate in many fun and engaging activities that are a part of Camp Thompson Resident Camp programming, like s’mores, Color Wars, polar bearing, Key Log rolling and much more! Pack your bag and get ready for some fun with Camp Thompson After Dark! Space is limited for this program so register early! Campers will be dropped off and picked up at the Carlisle Family YMCA within normal Camp Thompson Day Camp hours.

Camp Thompson Resident Camp



The Camp Thompson program is an authentic 7-day resident camp experience with almost a century of tradition. Each week campers will live in a cabin with their peers to enjoy their summer camp adventure. During their stay your camper will get the chance to experience each activity* listed below while also competing in Color Wars, taking a run on the zip line* or just enjoying some cabin time at the lake with their new friends. Our programs are built on diversity, innovation and creativity to ensure that each week is a new adventure for both new and returning campers. So come make a memory with us this summer!

My First Overnight



My First Overnight is an exciting opportunity for parents who have an adventurous 5- to 8-year-old camper. This camp experience is geared towards helping our younger campers make the transition from day camps to resident camps. During the three-day camp experience there will be two staff available at all times for each group. The program will be focused on making the campers as comfortable and confident as possible while providing fun and interactive games and activities. During the week we will be taking the campers on a fun-filled tour of all Camp Thompson has to offer for their age group. Campers/Parents are encouraged to make phone calls to camp during their stay and visits are always welcome, with a call ahead.

Leadership in Training



L.I.T. is an exciting and challenging program geared toward building the participants’ leadership skills while still in a supervised and structured environment. During the program participants will develop the following leadership components: time management, leading organized activities, service learning, public speaking and listening. These valuable tools are beneficial in more than the camp community; they will be useful in life as well. Working in small groups, teens will participate in team initiatives, leadership workshops, service projects and all camp activities. As part of the course participants will create, plan and implement a 2- to 3-day back-packing trip for themselves at the end of the their course. This is a 2-week residential program but just like the younger campers, participants go home in between sessions.

Soccer Personal Training



Personal training gives players the chance to train during the off-season and/or get extra work throughout the season.

Sports Director Kelly Tyrrell was a 4-year starting goalkeeper at Colgate University. Over the course of her career she was named 1st Team All-Conference, a Regional All-American and the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. She served as an assistant coach at Colgate for six years and then was the Dickinson College head coach for 10 years.

Players will leave the session feeling more comfortable with individual ball skills and how to better handle game situations.​

  • Ages: Boys and girls 7-14 years old

  • Non-Member Fee: $50 per 1-hour session per person

Noon-Time Hoops



​Do you like to play full-court basketball? We set aside time for our adult members age 19 and up to enjoy playing over the lunch hour. Join other Y members and relieve some stress while having fun! We do not allow guests during Noon-Time Hoops.

CAYS Indoor Preseason Training



This program is designed specifically for CAYS Travel Soccer players to get back in soccer shape for the spring season. The camp will be led by Kelly Tyrrell, Nic Newcomer and Tyler Getz and will focus on improving individual skills, agility and quickness and teamwork. Participants also will perform a variety of fast-paced drills and small-sided game play. Space is limited to 20 players so register early!

MORE Foundation Group Used Shoe Collection

Lap / Rec Swimming Pool Schedule



​Lap swimming is a great alternative to your regular workout! Lap lanes are always available for our members! We just ask that you share a lane when necessary. The number of lap lanes designated may be subject to change depending upon demand and other activity in the pool. This is at the discretion of the lifeguards and instructors on duty. Recreational swimmers will not be permitted to swim during non-designated rec swim hours due to other activities in the pool. Lap lanes may not be used for recreational swimming.

Healthy Kids Day®



We are hosting YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, an annual, national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. When a child is healthy, happy, motivated and excited, amazing things are bound to happen. Healthy Kids Day is a powerful reminder not to let children idle away their summer days but instead, focus on physical and mental play.

            Functional Fitness Center Youth Opportunities



            Youth Fitness classes are cancelled until we can hire a new instructor. We apologize for any inconvenience.

            • ​Youth ages 7-14 can take FREE Youth Fitness classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6:30pm. This time is for members only and is specifically tailored for youth. It includes structured classes as well as group play time.
            • Youth between the ages of 7-12 can use the FFC during free time as long as they are accompanied by their parent or guardian.
            • Youth between the ages of 7-12 who are not accompanied by a parent or guardian during free timewill be asked to leave.
            • Members ages 13 and over can use the FFC during free time or take fee-based, small group classes. We offer Y-Fit and TRX Suspension Training® classes. Classes are $8 each for you can sign up for the Monthly Unlimited Package for $24 / month / person and take as many classes as you want each month. (NOTE: It is highly recommended not to take more than 2 Y-Fit or TRX® classes per week, and to allow 1-2 days of rest between classes.)
            • The FFC is available for members ages 13 and over for FREE when classes are not in session. We recommend that teens ages 13-18 attend an orientation prior to free time use. You can do that by coming to a class or just stopping by the FFC on Mondays or Wednesdays between 5-6:30pm.

            HOW DO I PAY FOR CLASSES?

            NOTE: Whether you have paid for "unlimited" access to our Y-Fit and TRX® classes or just want to try out a class, you MUST register in advance as class size is limited.

            • Registration for every class opens 2 weeks in advance. Online registration closes at 11:59pm the day before the class is scheduled. To sign up for a class on the same day, you must register at the Welcome Center.
            • To register online, go to the calendar on our website to see the classes offered each day. Click on the class you would like to attend. Click the "Register Now" link to be taken to our online registration site. Or you can click the blue "Register Now" button below to see a full listing of classes open for registration. Check the box(es) for the day and time(s) of the class(es) you want to attend and click the gray "Register" button. This will take you to the login screen where you will see three rectangles:
            • If you already have registered for programs using our online system, just enter your e-mail address and password in the first rectangle.
            • If you are a current member but haven't set up your online account, select the second triangle to enable your online account. You can use your online account to register for classes, programs and events.
            • The third rectangle is for non-members and since the Functional Fitness Center is only for Carlisle Family YMCA members, you can disregard this rectangle.
            • Once signed in, follow the on-screen prompts to complete your registration for the class(es). You will be asked if you already have paid for the Unlimited Monthly Package or will be paying the Drop-In Fee. Only check the box for "Unlimited Monthly Package" if you have paid for this service. If you have not, check the "Drop-In Fee" box and the $8 will be charged.

            HOW DO I CANCEL IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND A CLASS?

            • You MUST contact us to let us know if you will not be able to attend a class for which you registered. Call Physical Director Jay Cattron at 243-2525 ext 230 or e-mail jcattron@carlislefamilyymca.org to cancel.
            • If you paid the Drop-In Fee, you must contact us at least 24 hours in advance to receive a 75% refund. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the class - or do not show up - no refunds or credits will be given.
            • If you have the Monthly Unlimited Package, you still need to let us know if you will not be able to attend a class for which you have registered. After three no-shows, your Unlimited Monthly Package will be canceled and you will have to pay the Drop-In Fee for future classes.

            HOW DO I CANCEL MY MONTHLY UNLIMITED PACKAGE?

            • Stop by the Welcome Center by the last day of the month to avoid being charged for the following month.

            FFC RULES

            To protect your member experience and our investment, we ask that you please abide by the following rules:

            1. THIS ROOM IS A MEMBER BENEFIT SO NO GUEST ARE ALLOWED
            2. Age of use:

              -Members ages 13 and over can use during free time or take fee-based classes

              -Youth members ages 7-14 can use during designated youth times only

              -We recommend teens ages 13-18 attend an orientation prior to free time use

            3. All members must sign in during free time and before classes
            4. No bags of any kind allowed
            5. No jackets or coats allowed
            6. No food allowed
            7. Only plastic, capped bottles of water or sports drinks allowed
            8. Proper gym attire required:

              -Athletic shoes only - not sandals, boots, etc.

              -Everyone must wear a shirt at all times

              -No jeans

            9. Clean and re-rack all equipment used during free time or after classes
            10. No phone calls allowed - please step outside to take a call
            11. Absolutely no swearing or inappropriate language
            12. Do not remove equipment from the FFC
            13. Do not bring in equipment from the Adult Fitness Center or your home

            • Y-FIT - Y-Fit classes focus on several different exercises performed in sequence that target a variety of muscle groups in each movement. A combination of HIIT, CrossFit, Boot Camp etc.style all rolled into one. Class size is limited to 10 people.
            • TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING - Born in the Navy SEALs, TRX Suspension Training develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. Class size is limited to 6 people.
            • YOUTH FITNESS - Functional training can be adapted to any age or ability, so we will be offering classes tailored specifically for ages 7-14 that will include a blend of functional fitness style exercises.

            NOTE: Although a short warm-up will be incorporated into classes, we recommend that you warm up 10-15 minutes prior to every class.

            HOW MUCH WILL CLASSES COST?

            • UNLIMITED MONTHLY PACKAGE = $24 / month / person - Members ages 13 and over can sign up to have this additional fee electronically deducted along with their monthly membership fee and then take as many Y-Fit and TRX classes as they would like. (NOTE: It is highly recommended not to take more than 2 Y-Fit or TRX classes per week, and to allow 1-2 days of rest between classes.)
            • DROP-IN RATE = $8 / class - If your schedule won't allow you to take advantage of the extreme value of the monthly package, members ages 13 and over can choose to pay per class.

            DO I NEED AN ORIENTATION BEFORE I CAN USE IT ON MY OWN?

            • We recommend that teens ages 13-18 attend an orientation prior to free time use. You can do that by coming to a class or just stopping by the FFC on Mondays or Wednesdays between 4:30-5pm.
            • If you are over the age of 18, we are not requiring you to have an orientation, but we are happy to show you around if you are interested. The best way to get an introduction to Y-Fit and/or TRX Suspension Training is to sign up for a class. Or you can make an appointment with one of our fitness specialists. Just stop by the Welcome Center and ask to schedule an appointment.
            • We hold orientations for our youth members ages 7-14 during the youth programming block. You do not need to sign up in advance.

            HOW DO I PAY FOR CLASSES?

            • Members ages 13 and over who wish to sign up for the Unlimited Monthly Package to get the most bang for their buck should stop by the Welcome Center to have the $24 / month / person fee electronically deducted along with their monthly membership fee. This fee will not be prorated, so register early in the month to take full advantage of this deal.
            • Members ages 13 and over also can choose to pay per class. The $8 / class Drop-In Fee will be charged when you register for each class (see below).
            • All Youth Fitness classes are FREE for ages 7-14.

            HOW DO I REGISTER FOR CLASSES?

            NOTE: Whether you have paid for "unlimited" access to our Y-Fit and TRX classes or just want to try out a class, you MUST register in advance as class size is limited.

            • Registration for every class opens 2 weeks in advance and remains open through the start of class, if space allows.
            • To register online, go to the calendar on our website to see the classes offered each day. Click on the class you would like to attend. Click the "Register Now" link to be taken to our online registration site. Or you can click the blue "Register Now" button below to see a full listing of classes open for registration. Check the box(es) for the day and time(s) of the class(es) you want to attend and click the gray "Register" button. This will take you to the login screen where you will see three rectangles:
            • If you already have registered for programs using our online system, just enter your e-mail address and password in the first rectangle.
            • If you are a current member but haven't set up your online account, select the second triangle to enable your online account. You can use your online account to register for classes, programs and events.
            • The third rectangle is for non-members and since the Functional Fitness Center is only for Carlisle Family YMCA members, you can disregard this rectangle.

            • Once signed in, follow the on-screen prompts to complete your registration for the class(es). You will be asked if you already have paid for the Unlimited Monthly Package or will be paying the Drop-In Fee. Only check the box for "Unlimited Monthly Package" if you have paid for this service. If you have not, check the "Drop-In Fee" box and the $8 will be charged.

            HOW DO I CANCEL IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND A CLASS?

            • You MUST contact us to let us know if you will not be able to attend a class for which you registered. Call Physical Director Jay Cattron at 243-2525 ext 230 or e-mail jcattron@carlislefamilyymca.org to cancel.
            • If you paid the Drop-In Fee, you must contact us at least 24 hours in advance to receive a 75% refund. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the class - or do not show up - no refunds or credits will be given.
            • If you have the Monthly Unlimited Package, you still need to let us know if you will not be able to attend a class for which you have registered. After three no-shows, your Unlimited Monthly Package will be canceled and you will have to pay the Drop-In Fee for future classes.

            HOW DO I CANCEL MY MONTHLY UNLIMITED PACKAGE?

            • Stop by the Welcome Center by the last day of the month to avoid being charged for the following month.

            To protect your member experience and our investment, we ask that you please abide by the following rules:

            1. THIS ROOM IS A MEMBER BENEFIT SO NO GUEST ARE ALLOWED
            2. Age of use:

              -Members ages 13 and over can use during free time or take fee-based classes

              -Youth members ages 7-14 can use during designated youth times only

            How do I reserve a bike for power cycling classes?

            • Click on the orange “Calendar” button on our website to access the list of classes offered.
            • Find the day and class you want to register for and click on the name of the class. This will take you to a page with a brief description of the class and below that you will see a “Register Now” link. Click that link to be taken directly to the reservation site.
            • The first time you use the site, you will have to set up an account. Your username will be your e-mail address.
            • Once you have created your account you will be taken directly to a page that lists all occurrences of the class you have selected. Click on the one with the date for which you want to reserve a bike. Then click the “Register Now for This Event” button and you are all set!
            • You cannot reserve a spin bike more than 48 hours in advance.

            How do I reserve a racquetball / squash court?

            • To reserve a racquetball or squash court, go to the Reserve Racquetball/Squash Courts page on our website. The search box or the orange “Calendar” button work best.
            • Click the blue “Register” button at the bottom of the page to be taken to our registration site.
            • The first time you use the site, you will have to set up an account. Your username will be your e-mail address.
            • Once in the system, enter the date you want to play and click the button to check availability on all four courts. Just keep scrolling down to see every court’s availability. Open times will be displayed in orange. Unavailable times will be marked in black.
            • Click the time you want to start playing and pick 30 or 60 minutes from the menu. Click “Create Registration” and you are all set!
            • You cannot reserve a racquetball or squash court more than 2 weeks in advance.

            How do I register for a program?

            We have transitioned to all online program registration. You can register for programs in a couple of different ways:

            1. Find the program for which you want to register by using the navigation menu (Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility) OR just search for the name of the program in the search bar. If you use quotation marks around your search term, that will help narrow the choices. Once you are on the page for your selected program, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the blue “Register” button. This will take you directly to the program’s registration page in our online program registration system.
            2. If you know the name of the program and would like to go directly to our online program registration site, just click the orange “Programs” button. Enter the name of the program in the search bar to find programs that are open for registration.

            Once on the online registration site, select the program for which you want to register and click the gray “register” button. This will take you to the login screen where you will see three rectangles.

            • If you already have registered for programs using our online system, just enter your e-mail address and password in the first rectangle.
            • If you are a current or past member, or if you have registered for programs in the past, but you haven't set up your online account, select the second rectangle to enable your online account. You can use your online account to register for classes, programs and events.
            • If you've never been a member or enrolled in any of our programs or classes, select the third rectangle to create an online account. You can use your online account to register for classes, programs and events.

            Once signed in, just follow the on-screen prompts to register for programs.

            How do I sign up for a membership?

            You can begin the membership process on our website or by stopping by the Welcome Center at the Y. To start the process on the website, just click on the orange “Join” button View our membership categories and rates by clicking the “View Rates” option on the page. Once you are ready to start the membership process, click on the “Join Now” option. Fill out the form with as much information as possible and hit “Save.” This information will be sent to our Member Service Representatives to enter into our membership system as a starting point for your membership. We will need you to stop by the Y to set up your payment method and take photos to keep on file. When you get to the Y, just let the Member Service Representative working at the Welcome Center know that you registered online.

            Does the Y offer membership and / or program scholarships?

            We believe everyone deserves a Y, so the Carlisle Family YMCA offers financial assistance to individuals and families who might otherwise not be able to afford membership or program fees. Ask a staff member about our Financial Assistance program. It’s easy to apply and the Y does everything it can to make the Y a place for all.

            How do I donate?

            The Carlisle Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign is our largest fund-raising drive. The campaign officially runs each year from March to May, but donations are accepted all year long. You can donate in one of two ways:

            • Go to our website and click the orange “Donate” button. Then click the “Donate Money” option on the page. This will take you directly to our online donation site. Follow the on-screen prompts to make a donation.
            • If you would prefer to write a check, you can make it payable to “Carlisle Family YMCA” and either drop it off or mail it to the Y at Carlisle Family YMCA, 311 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013. Please just mark it to the attention of Cate Mellen.

            Boys’ Travel Basketball League



            Our travel basketball team is for young players who want a more competitive, tougher basketball experience. Practices will be begin in November and will be held twice a week. Games will be played on the weekend from December through February.

            Child Care Center



            Our child care center is designed for your peace of mind. We promote the emotional growth of your child in an environment that is educationally stimulating. Our activities are constructed around the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to assist in building a positive and strong foundation within your child. Relationship building, problem solving, development of positive communication pathways, turn taking and sharing are all a part of our foundational structure. We are strong proponents of early literacy and creativity to prepare your child both for school and life experiences. Our Child Care Center is a Keystone Star 4 Level center. 

            Children in our Child Care Center enjoy:

            Counselor in Training (CIT)



            APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE JANUARY 15, 2018.

            ​The C.I.T. program focuses on leadership, communication, counseling and activity skills necessary to become a counselor. If selected, CITs may request positions lasting from three to six weeks. This is an unpaid, volunteer program. There is no fee for participation. Applications must be submitted by May 14, 2018 and interviews will be conducted. Applications will be available beginning January 15, 2018. Teens must be age 16 by June 1, 2018 to apply.

            CYAA Competitive Age Group

            The Carlisle Family YMCA has a competitive swimming program (CYAA) for youth up to age 18. The program includes development and training for all levels from the novice swimmer to the national elite. No tryouts are held, but swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards). The team participates in the YMCA Swim Coaches' Association of Pennsylvania (YSCAP) League and competes in several dual meets as well as optional USA and other YMCA invitational meets. The swim team is divided into three groups: Mini Sharks, Competitive Age Group and High School Age Group. The season runs from October to February. A Y membership (youth, teen or family) is required for all swimmers. The only exception is for high school swimmers who only want to practice and will not compete in any dual or championship meets.

            The competitive age group swim team includes youth ages 9-18 (may include a younger swimmer by invitation from the coach). The season runs from October 9, 2017 - February 2018 for most swimmers and practices are offered 5 days/week. Participants are encouraged to attend a minimum of 3 practices per week. Participants in this group must possess a Y membership (youth, teen or family) that is effective by the first day of practice.

            Formerly known as the Carlisle Friendly Fest, this one-day soccer event gives U9-U12 travel soccer teams the opportunity to compete in several friendly games without the high costs of a tournament. Coaches can see how their teams stack up against the competition and give their players the chance to shake off some of the cobwebs before the season starts.             Camp Thompson is located in beautiful Pine Grove Furnace State Park in the Michaux State Forest and is just a short drive from Carlisle. Camp Thompson has served our community and others for almost a century with affordable, quality programming. The camp is nestled between Fuller and Laurel lakes and along the historic Appalachian Trail. Camp Thompson is situated on 50 acres of lush forests, flowing creeks and adventurous trails. All of these features make for a great summer destination for field trips, school trips or other group outings.

            Our facilities include but are not limited to a pavilion, modern bath house, alpine tower, low ropes course with over 10 elements, archery range, 10 sleep-over cabins, volleyball court, dining hall, full kitchen, fire rings, health center, basketball court, nature and OLS areas. We offer a number of exciting programs to our visitors. Here are just a few of our current offerings: archery (compound bows), canoeing, kayaking (flat water), big group games, swimming, guiding hiking, guided top rope climbing, walking sling shot range, teambuilding, creek walking, OLS and mountain boarding.

            Camp staff are all certified American Red Cross lifeguards and professional rescuers and have wilderness training. They are available and ready to help with planning your group’s needs. The high quality of work and training the staff at Camp Thompson engage in has earned us accreditation from the American Camping Association. Not only are we accredited as a camp, but also as a visitor group site and an outside provider of programs and activities for camps and groups.

            Building Rentals / Lock-Ins



            ​Building and pool rentals are handled on a case-by-case request, but we do make our facility available during regular business hours and sometimes even after hours, again, depending on the group and their needs. We ask that you keep in mind that our facility is paid for by our members so please make sure your participants respect our property.

            A Lock-In generally occurs on Friday night and begins at 10pm. The doors to the Y will be locked by 10:30pm, after which time no one will be permitted to enter the building without prior approval of the Y staff supervisor and the Rental Group Leader. The Lock-In ends at 7am the following morning.



            Boy / Girl Scout Aquatic Badge Work



            ​Local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can reserve the Y indoor pool to complete their swim test / merit badge work and enjoy the pool for up to 1.5 hours.

            Y Tri Indoor Sprint Triathlon



            It's not too soon to start training for the Y’s 9th annual Indoor Sprint Triathlon. Participants over 19 will swim 800 yards in our indoor pool, bike 12 miles on our power cycles and run a 5K on our fitness center treadmills. Youth ages 10-18 have the option to do the full race or to complete the novice distances: swim 400 yards, bike 6 miles and run 1.5 miles. Don't want to do the whole race yourself? Grab 2 friends and form a 3-person relay team! Relay teams will all complete the full distances and anyone age 10 and up can participate. Transition times will not be counted; only the time elapsed to finish the events. Each participant will receive a performance shirt. This event is limited to 36 individuals – six heats of six athletes – plus up to six relay teams! Registration opens September 1 and ends February 14.

            Masters Swimming



            Masters refers to age, not expertise! All levels are welcome and you do not need to compete to join. Coach Gary Shank will be on deck to provide workouts and give you feedback and encouragement. The program runs for 36 weeks, but you can join anytime and the fee will be prorated. You can pay for the entire season at once or pay monthly. Walk-ins are welcome; just stop at the Welcome Center to pay before you head to the pool.

            Middle School Girls’ Lacrosse



            This program focuses on introducing the game of lacrosse and teaching the fundamentals and rules of the game. The team will practice twice a week and compete in games and tournaments on Saturdays and Sundays. All players must provide their own stick and mouth guard. Goggles also are required and can be bought through the Y for $35.

            Girls’ Volleyball Clinic



            This is a great program for girls who want to learn the sport of volleyball with fun and enjoyment as the main focus. Participants will learn the fundamentals and rules of the game while improving upon their volleyball skills in a non-competitive environment. This is a great way to brush up on your skills before middle school volleyball team tryouts!

            3-on-3 Basketball Tournament



            ​Grab some friends and get ready for a fun day of basketball! This is a round-robin format tournament that guarantees each team at least three games, with a playoff held to determine the winners. Trophies will be awarded for the top 2 teams in each division. Three divisions are available - Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6 and Grades 7-8.

            Lifeguard / CPR / AED / First Aid Recertification Course



            Any current lifeguard whose certification is about to expire must take this course to be recertified. Some videos will be viewed in the classroom as well as a review of skills in the pool. A written test and practical exam will be given. Please bring your current certification card, identification, a notebook, pen, swim suit, towel, personal pocket mask and goggles. If you do not have a personal pocket mask, you can order one for $14 at the time of registration. Participants will be required to take the CPR recertification course regardless of whether their CPR is expiring so all certifications will be on the same two-year cycle. If you register for this course, you do not need to register for the CPR class; it will be assumed you are attending both classes. The new certification is good for 2 years.

            Arthritis Water Exercise



            ​This class will help you gain range of motion in joints as well as build strength in all major muscle groups. The ability to swim is not required. Some cardiovascular conditioning is included. A doctor’s authorization is necessary for non-members to participate and should be given to the instructor on the first day of class. You may join at any time; the fee will be prorated.
